At San Mateo School we promote student leadership under the “leading by doing” principle. Here you can explore student led organizations at our school.
There are various student-led groups in our school:
SMMUN: It’s based on an educational model that is a replica of the United Nations Organization adapted to the students’ level and needs. The project intends to develop critical thinking and to encourage reflection on topics that regard the whole world; the model includes participative scenarios, which are also arranged by the students.
SCHOOL GOVERNMENT: The “Personería” and the Student Council constitute the school’s Government. This is where students and the overall community get prepared to exercise their right to a democratic participation.
GAIA: It’s a group that reflects on the protection of the environment and the sustainable practices that contribute to taking care of the planet. This group intends to bring new knowledge to the field by researching on instruments and technology that allow us to create better living conditions while protecting the environment.
HOUSES SYSTEM: Following the British model of fraternities, San Mateo Apóstol School is organized in four Houses of students that spend the year competing with each other in different sports and arts activities. This is one of our ways to encourage teamwork and leadership.
CO-EXISTANCE PACT GROUP: The Oracle group supports reflection within the community regarding prevention and conflict resolution. It promotes harmony between students and parents through several subjects that address this topic in terms of norms and rules.
